Prey

They’re both shooter-based action games, set in a derelict spaceship, that’s been overrun by body-horror monsters that have transformed most of the crew and killed the rest. You play a silent protagonist trying to piece together what happened by finding audio logs and video recordings left by the dead crew. A significant amount of the game involves repairing parts of the ship, usually at the behest of a woman on the other end of a radio link who, it is eventually revealed, is the game’s sub-villain.

Both games also feature non-branching storylines and an almost total lack of NPC interaction, beyond listening to canned radio messages or occasionally seeing someone get killed through a window or on the other side of a locked door, so I’d question labeling either as an RPG.

There’s differences, obviously, but there’s a lot in common between these two games.

Sorry for the zombie reawakening, but Prey is on sale at Steam for $15. For those worried about their processor, I’m playing on a Core i7-920. My GPU is a GTX-970, so that’s probably why it works fine. Seems to depend more on the GPU than the CPU.

I’m only about 1/2 hour in, but it’s fun so far!

Anyway, brains.
