Price paid for car with no A/C vs broken A/C

The KBB value for our car, assuming it has no A/C installed, is about $5000. In fact, it does have A/C installed, but the A/C doesn’t blow cold air. (Not a problem with mere charge, but we’re not sure what the problem is.)

I would think the actual value of the car would be a little more than the value of the same car but with no A/C installed.

But I am afraid the actual value of the car may be a little less than the value of the same car with no A/C installed, simply because of the psychological effect of the car having a part that is broken.

What do you think?

(BTW the car also has an inoperational radio installed, and I figure the same reasoning applies here as well.)

I would value it at the greater of:

  1. $5k or
  2. Value of car with working a/c MINUS price to fix your a/c.
