I can’t believe that I’m the one to start up this thread, but what the heck. What a beautiful movie! Beautiful costumes. Beautiful music. Beautiful scenary. Beautiful people. I could sit and stare at that country ball scene for hours.
The characters are exactly as I pictured them in my mind’s eye and perfectly acted. Special kudos to the actress playing Mrs. Bingley and the actor playing Mr. Collins. Well done indeed.
A nitpick. At the scene at Mr. Darcy’s home the servants are supposed to be going on about what a good man he is and all the good he does for the community. Instead we just get a scene of Ms. Bennet walking around his house looking at statues. It almost seems like she falls for him because she likes his stuff which is totally wrong and out of character.
I saw it over the weekend and liked it. Mrs. Bennett and Mr. Collins pwned their respective roles, and Donald Sutherland is always fantastic.
It’s tough on the actor doing Darcy because everyone is inevitably going to compare him to Colin Firth, but he did a fine job (helped that he wasn’t hard to look at, either… ;))
Keira Knightley and Rosamund Pike are just gorgeous.
Indeed. They actually found an English actress who was hotter (slightly) than Keira and could act. Color me impressed. Too bad Rosamund’s other movie this year is Doom.
I meant Ms. Bingley in my original post. Great job with the snobby, elitist barely concealed-shrew bit.
I’m ashamed to say I just saw the 1940s version of this recently and I LOVED IT. I will make it a point to see the new one soon so I can compare while the first one is fresh in my mind. I love great costumes. I hope they’re as impressive in the new one as they were in the old.
