Prime Suspect -- Best of the 7

We had seen Prime Suspect: The Final Act (2006) (TV) on PBS’s Masterpiece Contemporary and decided to get the Netflix DVD’s of the past series.

We finished up with Prime Suspect 6: The Last Witness (2003) (TV) last night and I feel it’s the best of the batch. The pace was electric, the plot contorted, the acting exceptional and the overall effect of the political implications more arresting then the others.

Every one of the seven was well above network standards, so even the least effective one was a thrill to watch, even 18 years after the fact.

If you’ve seen the entire group and care to offer a better series than #6, please do.

I can easily recommend the group to anybody who likes a gritty police procedural set in the UK.

It just kept getting better. The first series was great; the seventh was great[sup]7[/sup].

True. Helen Mirren is in a class of her own. What I’d really love to see, but which has precious little chance of happening, would be Helen and James Gandolfini in some gritty drama. Those actors can do much more with a facial expression or a shoulder shrug than others can with a page of dialogue.

The secondary actors on Prime Suspect delivered every time and it was amazing to see the unknowns (at the time) who would go on the greater heights. Ralph Fiennes stands out among that group.
