Do you know something we don’t?
Okay, how about “entirely possible” that Charles will die before his mother. Women tend to outlive men, and she’s only got 22 years on him.
Some of that is her parents’ fault. Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon didn’t really value education for girls. She simply couldn’t see any point in sending her daughters to school (even it had become the norm for girls of that social class by then). George V wasn’t much better. Princess Elizabeth got a real education because she was expected to become Queen one day and thus needed to learn subjects like history, politcal science, & constitutional law.
At least younger sons were brought up for a career in the military or civil service. Princess Margaret was brought up to do anything besides marrying well, attending parties, and light charity work. Granted this was true of most women of her class. She was very resentful of her lack of education as an adult (but never bothered doing anything to correct that either).
No sense educating Margaret though. No reason why George VI would have any reason to consider the possibility of a younger sibling unexpectedly becoming the monarch.
Yeah, just imagine what a fiasco it would’ve been if her older sister had died in childbirth & Prince Charles had been stillborn.
