Prince Harry and Meghan "Quitting " royal family

OK - but now she is. I’m not sure why anyone ought to accept everything she says w/o question.

What, exactly, did they do for other royals that they didn’t do for her?

For example, when cracks were made that they’d have to rename Buckingham Palace to Buckingpastrami because Kate was allegedly Jewish (based solely on her mother’s maiden name of Goldsmith), what did the palace do? When the Iran-based Mehr News Agency said Kate’s marriage in the Church of England was a sham and nastier parts of the blogosphere reported how she was “tainting” the royal family, what was the official response? (See the Times of Israel for some reporting)

How about the conspiracy theory that Kate faked her first pregnancy, or when the Daily Mail talked about how “social-climbing matriarchs” created Kate and at her first job “most of the talk about her concerned her very tight shorts”? The Queen was alleged to be “disgusted” by Kate’s family–please remind me how the Palace responded?

What exactly do you think they should have done to defend her from attacks in the press?

What have the royals ever been able to do about attacks in the press?

I can only imagine how distressing it would be for the press to print awful things about me. But if I were filthy rich, with access to all manner of palaces and other resources, I’m wondering how much it would bother me. I realize that as royals they are expected to perform some number of public appearances to earn their pretty substantial stipends. But were people hurlingy insults and rotten produce at them during those ribbon cuttings? I don’t HAVE to read the damned papers, do I? And would my friends and family - or even a TON of other people, not be willing to interact w/ me because of lies and insults in the press?

The press would find it distressing to print awful things about you? :grinning:

Anyhow, I don’t think that wealth and status ever really insulate people from feeling hurt by attacks in the press.

The royals are particularly bothered because they feel they have to live up to certain standards to maintain the prestige of the monarchy.

Sure, but I bet I am not alone in thinking i would prefer being rich and attacked in the press, rather than poor and ignored.

Wait, are you saying because she’s an actress, her claims of mental health issues are fabricated?

  1. go to acting school
  2. have enough talent and effort to get successful enough to be noticed by a Prince.
  3. Marry the prince.
  4. Complain of treatment by press and indifference by royal family leading to severe emotional distress
  5. Profit?

It’s a good plan. I see why people don’t believe her.

Well, if you go far enough back, they’d have been able to lop off heads and stuff, but I suppose that wouldn’t sit too well these days.

The idea of noticing that you are in a hole, then quite earnestly trying to dig yourself out of the hole, but only finding that you dig the same hole deeper, is not exactly unprecedented in humans though, is it?

How the heck is “drama queen” HATEFUL?

I do not know if they are or not. Do you? Based on what?

I hate to break it to you, but people lie - or at least skew the facts to serve their purposes.

Idk, but you’re the one who wrote

Meghan is an experienced actress, very aware of the importance of presenting an image and attempting to sway public opinion. I see no reason to believe that experience is not being applied to current publicity - including her claim of mental health issues.

Personally, I have no reason to doubt a pregnant woman who expresses severe emotional distress for the sole reason that she was an actress. Severe depression related to pregnancy doesn’t only hit non-actresses.

She’s seeking publicity. Of course there’s no conceivable reason to expect she would say anything other than the unvarnished truth.

But wait - she’s a woman, claiming to have been wronged. And a mental health sufferer. How DARE anyone question her!

Would you be more inclined to believe her if she were a man?

She was rich, known, and liked before marrying into the royal family.

Granted, she’s now richer, but that came with a whole industry of press attacking her. Not only attacking the objectively bad things she did, whatever they are, but things that were praised by the same press in years past when other people did them.

I don’t think so. I didn’t believe Jessie Smollet (sp?). People lie, and seek publicity. Unless I have prior reasons to believe strongly in someone’s veracity, I am hesitant to simply believe most people’s self serving statements at face value.

I think Charles or his wife asked about baby color. And it that’s true I think he won’t be king. They will skip over him. That’s also why they won’t say who asked it. It might leak out .

…so you don’t believe the black woman. Because you don’t believe the black man.

I can see where you are going with this.
