Prince Harry dresses as a Nazi - so what?

Bill wiggins was one of the Mustique set - a euro-trash layabout with more money than sense (he’s called “bungalow” as he’s got nothing upstairs!). This is where she spent her post marriage times with a bunch of moneyed reprobates, he’s by far from the worst.

John Bindon was a petty crook and part time actor (who also acted as Led Zeppelin’s security in the USA) who famously could hang 5 half pint mugs on his todger. Another hanger-on. (I have no idea what she saw in him :stuck_out_tongue: ). He was eventually stabbed near to where I live.

It looks as Harry is hanging out with the same sort of people. They all seem to be from the hunting , shooting , fishing , Upper-Class Twit Of Year set. It was reported in the Times yesterday that the hosts of the infamous party were involved in that invasion of Parliament during the fox-hunting debate.

I see! Thank you.

(Jeez, can you believe this thread has gone to three pages?)

Is this the younger or older brother that favors (dare I say, favours?) the swastika?

Personally I had no idea that Prince Charles was so strict a disciplinarian: “I told you, one more shenanagin out of you and it’s off to Auschwitz!”

Seriously what exactly is a tour of Auschwitz supposed to accomplish? I assume Prince Harry already knows that the Nazis killed several million people and that’s a bad thing. And if he hasn’t figured that out he’s not likely to learn it at this point. What else is he going to learn there? How is a trip to Poland to see a place where Germans killed Jews supposed to relate to him as a Briton? If I were in his situation I’d probably be thinking, “This puts it all in perspective. I thought I was a troublemaker but compared to the things that were done here, the things I’ve done that people made such a fuss over seem rather harmless.”

Hey, if Auschwitz doesn’t work, there’s always the Tower.

I think the upper class twit Meade family deserves some of the blame for this debacle, because what kind of fancy dress theme is Natives And Colonials, anyway? Are you supposed to turn up dressed like Cecil Rhodes? So while I agree that Harry’s choice of Afrika Korp stormtrooper was ill-advised, I can understand the young princes’ confusion regarding choice of costume. William apparently turned up dressed as a leopard. Doesn’t seem particularly native or colonial to me, but at least it wasn’t a Nazi leopard.

Well Prince Harry has got some supporters :-

Yes, I bet they love him.

This is sickening. And very much the thing I was afraid of.

Bravo, Harry. Your childish prank - You’re only 20, you poor child - has met with the approval of a bunch of anti-semites.

I hope your father will starve you for a half year, shave your head, pull out your gold teeth and let you dig holes until you collapse. No need for you to get a ZyklonB shower. Just so you get the feeling what it was like in a concentration camp.

I doubt a mere visit will penetrate through your ‘adolescence’ brain.

Wouldn’t this all be quite a Bigger Deal in Europe than it is in America, or even Britain? I was under the impression that in Germany one isn’t allowed to own swastikas or war memorabilia, is that true? If that’s the case, I can certainly see why people there would be Very Upset about it all.

Of course, when I did stupid things at his age, nobody took pictures of it and put it in the tabloids, and it wasn’t a national news event. And when I think of the costumes one might wear to a Natives and Colonials party, I can’t imagine what a prince would wear that wouldn’t upset somebody and still be with the theme. Which just speaks to the poor taste of his host.

Oi! Huntin’ + Shootin’ + Fishin + public school + title etc does not automatically equal nazi! (is this the Godwin moment?)

It is perfectly possible to believe in the freedom of people to do things that don’t harm other people and not be a complete berk.

(Having said that if you have the misfortune (as do I) of living in SW London you will see that from time to time it does)

Yes, we’re ‘Very Upset’ about it. I have no clue what’s allowed in Germany, but I know that six million Jews, Roma, handicapped persons, Communists, Socialists, Jehovah’s Witnesses, and homosexuals were murdered in a gruesome manner during WWII.

I expect Harry to know that too. Unless he’s mentally handicapped himself, ofcourse.

I’m not Jewish, but I’d knock his silly brains out were he my son.
btw: Would you wear a Ku Klux Klan outfit to a party if you were a public figure?

[this has nothing to do with some awful tabloid looking for sensation. This has to do with master Harry himself.]

I wasn’t implying that they are all Nazis. I was trying to make the point that Harry seems to be mixing with the same type brainless bunch that Margaret used to hang around with. Mind you I haven’t much respect for this shower . Perhaps it is my working-class reverse snobbishness that’s kicking in.

This from the* Sunday Times *today

" This newspaper contacted the son of a close adviser to the Prince Of Wales last week.

’ My uncle died at Auschwitz ’ said the young man . who was at Eton with Harry .He sounded sombre and the journalist offered his sympathies. Had his uncle really been at Auschwitz? ’ Yes , he slipped and fell off one of the watchtowers . Ho Ho Ho ! ’ "

So we see the sort of brainless twerps Harry is mixing with.

Teeny nitpick - it was about 6 millions Jews. The other groups aren’t counted in that figure.

I’m just flat-out fascinated by the fact for several days running, it’s been a big enough story to be on the front page of Google News (the US version, not the UK one!). I personally don’t see the big deal. To me, it’s nothing more than a case of “rich kid doesn’t quite think and does something stupid and mildly offensive”. This is not breaking news. From this one action, I’d say that Prince Harry is as intelligent and tactful as a box of rocks. But it’s not as if he’s in a position where he needs to be intelligent. He’s sort of a public figure…because he is, not because he’s done anything or so forth.

All that said, what’s got me most outraged is the concept of having a theme party themed ‘Natives and Colonials.’ The Irish in me screams in anger at a bunch of spoiled British boys playing at that…

If you saw yesterdays Observer - you may well have a point.

Is this the article ?

I rest my case !

The very same.

The “Glossie Posse” indeed.

I know most people are pretty repellent at twenty (I deserved birching, as I dare say many others did), but I and my pals were never THAT bad!

Incidentally I used to see William out and about in a pub called the Duke of Cambridge in Battersea (which seems to be an off-shoot of Eton’s SCR) and he and his friends seemed like decent enough sorts (he would have been about 18 then).
