Prince Harry to marry Meghan Markle

 Agree, well said.

The only thing I really saw of the ceremony was Bishop Curry’s sermon, because all of my liberal Lutheran pastor friends were sharing it all over the place on Facebook. So I watched it. It was fantastic!! I am actually quite amused that so many Brits thought it went on too long (13 minutes are too long?!!) and that he made it about himself (which is something I’ve been hearing, which I didn’t understand, maybe related to them thinking the sermon was too long or that it was about God? Which, you are in a Christian service), or was hollering (wha? That was dialed back for an African-American Preacher). The other amusing stuff was that he sounded like a holy roller (The Episcopal Church may be the polar opposite of the holy rollers).

I come to the conclusion that sermons in the UK must be dreadfully dull.

In addition, it was also Meghan Markle’s wedding and as an African-American, I’m pretty sure she knew what she was getting and selected him for just that purpose (all the shots of her mom, showed her nodding to the sermon).

Heh, Harry and Meghan drove off to the evening reception in an E-type Jag, looking very much like a certain Mr Bond and his sexy American sidekick.

Yep, at least in the establishment churches.

The hats were fantastic! Just a lovely wedding.

I thought that stand by me was perfect for Harry and Meghan. Classic gown. The page boys were amazing! I loved the look on one of the boy’s faces when he heard the horns and saw all the people in the church. The prince of Wales did very well with Meghan and her mum. The loving looks between bride and groom. All just lovely.

I think the queen enjoyed the bishop’s talk, she did have Billy graham over to the palace.

 I never expected him to marry me.

Any passive aggressive jerk in my wedding party showing up in that shittery would be photoshopped afterwards to a fare-thee-well.

Oh, sorry. It was just such an unexpectedly robust thing you posted about international human rights lawyer Amal’s choice of clothing for a wedding.

I see you added this completely sane addendum to your original post.

General etiquette is you don’t dress in a way that takes attention from the bride.

And yet somehow the groom doesn’t get the same treatment…

I’m watching the replay of the wedding on MSNBC. I’m somewhat biased in that I have no respect for monarchies anywhere. That said, this priest is basically a comedian but I do appreciate his bringing up slavery in the US. Really the only positive thing about the whole event, reminding us of the ugliness that power can create. The one thing that also brought a smile to my face is how they both laughed after the statements about being faithful; refreshingly honest and also perhaps a nod to the actions of the young prince’s father and mother. So any predictions on the date of the divorce?

Did you watch the thing? Nobody, not one of the 600 of them, took anything away from the bride. :dubious:

Yes. Ten minutes should have been the maximum. Five minutes would have been better. You can say a lot in 10 minutes if you don’t keep repeating yourself. And the service is about the bride and groom, not the preacher.

Black man spoke too long, eh?

While I didn’t watch this wedding, in real weddings I’ve been too, I don’t like sermons. Nothing to do with race (excepting one, I’ve only been to relatives weddings, and I’m white, and the preachers I’ve seen have been white), but more to do with my disinterest in religion. I don’t go to church, and don’t want to be preached at. No idea if that’s what happened here - as I said, didn’t watch. But I have a certain sympathy for that circumstance.

Don’t even get me started on the one I went to where the preacher made it a point to say the bride should follow the husband’s lead, etc. Ick.

Oh come on. On what planet do you think this was an appropriate response?

This particular black man did. A lecture on the Industrial Revolution?

I just read on one of those annoying clickbaity articles that The Queen dictates that all sermons be limited to 12 minutes.

Apparently it is one of the 16 things she hates. Along with the word pregnant and ice cubes that clink together. And soup and potatoes. Yeah, I am wasting lots of time on the internet today.

This might have been Meghan and Harry’s day, but it is still All About The Queen.

In case anyone wants to look for themselves. It’s probably fictional drivel and the format is supper annoying, so don’t bother. But there it is.

Actually, no. My email is web based and the portal page is loaded with “news”. Including photos from the event. A safety yellow dress is not exactly inconspicuous
