Considering a lot of the British nobility had their doubts about Philip when Elixabeth was so in love with him I’d say Philip is calling the kettle black. Some folks called him “Charlie Kraut” and said he was “unlikely to be faithful” I’ve heard rumors(and we all know how much they are worth) that Phiip himself had a roving eye.
Funny they’d call Prince Philip of Greece the Kraut when Elizabeth’s roughly as German as he is.
Reading up on the Prince, maybe it’s because he had 3 siblings that were married into German aristocracy and she didn’t.
I just want to say that I think they’re a lovely couple; I am always delighted when I see people so clearly in love. I daresay that’s another thing the royal couple and the Obamas have in common.
They are clearly into each other, it’s wonderful to see. I like that they reportedly met on a blind date and all she asked before was whether he’s nice. Seems he is!
Here’s some more wedding details. It’s the same basic format as William & Kate’s wedding, albeit on a smaller scale and a carriage ride around Windsor (since the venue itself is part of Windsor Castle). Also it’s being planned so as not to clash with the FA Cup Final.
That certainly lets the soon-to-be-Royal Couple know where they stand. ![]()
I was really hoping for an X-Files theme: Prince Harry, Meghan Markle Debating Between Hawaiian Luau- Or ‘X-Files’-Themed Wedding
Brian
QFT.
I imagine there will be a huge roar of approval if they go there.
More details. I’m not surprised neither the Trumps or the Obamas were invited, but I’m a little surprised Theresa May isn’t invited. I know it’s not a state wedding, but it’s still the most high profile royal event that’s going to happen between William & Kate’s wedding and Prince Phillip’s* funeral.
*Assuming he dies first; the Queen’s funeral is going to be the biggest even since Pope John Paul II’s funeral.
Trouble is, if you invite May, you’ve also got to invite the leaders of the other major parties (it’s tradition). I imagine it’s just easier to say ‘it’s private’ and leave it at that.
I think it’ll be bigger than that!
Well this is just sad; Meghan’s dad isn’t attending the wedding.
Apparently a British law requires the queen to give her consent before the wedding can take place and she did so verbally in March during an official meeting. But last week, the UK government released photos of the paper consent, and wow it’s really impressive. It’s handwritten (actually done in very nice calligraphy) and illustrated. If I had a document like that, I’d frame it and hang it on the wall.
Reminds me of a ketubah, a Jewish marriage contract. My parents have theirs framed in my Dad’s study, although it’s not as ornate as some of them (or the Queen’s consent).
There’s a Commonwealth flag in the bottom right corner.
Very beautiful. Are the calligraphic Instruments of Consent a new thing since the Perth Agreement, or there they done under the Royal Marriages Act, 1772 to? The old law effected thousands of people so that’s a lot of busy calligraphers.
Impressive indeed. And it’s a nice touch having symbols of California (golden poppies) and the U.S. (olive branches) for Meghan’s side as well.
They were done before (there was one in 2011 too), but I doubt that everyone got one. Like, I doubt that…Juliet Victoria Catharine Nicolson and Simon Alexander Rood (whoever the hell they are, they were the last people to get the Queen’s consent to marry under the old law) got anything fancy.
Do keep up, Lord Feldon. Miss Nicholson is a great-great-great granddaughter of Queen Victoria, via the Connaught line. I thought everyone knew that!
Royal Musings: Queen approves marriage of cousin at Privy Council meeting
Buzzfeed has a short guide to the Markle family. I didn’t realize Prince Harry and Meghan’s father haven’t even met in person yet. At least Prince Phillip’s sisters didn’t go whining to the media about not getting wedding invites. ![]()
