Out of curiosity, where does this line come from? I read it here for the first time today (seriously, never heard it before), and not 8 hours later I hear a character say this in an anime called “Excel Saga” that I just started watching on Netflix.

One thing about The Princess Bride is it has a lot of quotes that work well on their own. I generally don’t speak in quotes from Princess Bride or any other movie because I’m not an asshole (no offense, everyone on this entire board), but will make occasional exceptions if either I’m certain that everyone I’m talking to has seen the movie, or if the quote makes sense by itself. I’ve said a few times “Back in my day, TV was called books,” because it’s funny without having seen Princess Bride. Also, “I don’t think that words means what you thin it means” is a good response to a misused word that doesn’t require having seen the movie. I hardly ever use the latter, though, as it’s difficult to say without seeming like you’re going out of your way to be pedantic, but this isn’t about me. The point is I think Princess Bride is one of those oft-quoted movies because it’s funny and quotable for one (people will always quote movies like that), but moreover, even for the movie quote averse, some of the lines could stand on their own and easily apply to everyday conversations.
Edit: Oh, I will say “I don’t think we’re in Kansas anymore, Toto,” when in unfamiliar territory, but I don’t think there are human beings that exist (who I would engage in conversation, anyway) who wouldn’t know what I’m talking about. Maybe there’s a seven year old out there who has no idea what that is, but among the rest of us, it’s such an ubiquitous reference that I don’t even consider it dropping a movie quote.
