Princess Leia's Stolen Death Star Plans

Best thing I’ve seen on the web in ages.

I swear I’ve seen a lot of stuff in my life, but that was… awesome!

Five years in the making, I read somewhere. They wanted to get it out in time for the 50th anniversary of Pepper and the 40th anniversary of SW. Truly a labor of love.

I found this:

“We sweat the details on both sides in an effort to do both cultural milestones justice. Writing hyper-specific lyrics that match the original songs’ cadences; reverse-engineering everything the Beatles recorded, from distorted saxophone riffs to Indian tabla rhythms; recording everything from scratch and learning as we went — well, that’s what takes five years.”

This is not the thread you are looking for.

You can go about your business.

Move along.

Thank you.

A snippet from “Dianoga, Sewer Snake” to the tune of “Lovely Rita, Meter Maid”:

*Standing in a garbage crusher,
quite a smell that you’ve discovered
Diving from the hallway
through a little trash chute
Found the door, but magnets sealed it;
got a gun, but shouldn’t wield it
Blaster fire will only ricochet here again

Dianoga, sewer snake,
flattered with how you like me
Would you feel free
to please release my knee?*

Fucking brilliant.

Funny and brilliant and satisfies both my inner Star Wars nerd and my Beatles nerd.

That was just great. Sent it to my son who is a Star Wars fan and knows enough about the Beatles that he’ll most certainly enjoy. Especially the more well known cuts. And totally worth it for the pay off.

“He’s Leaving Home” is just awesome. I gasped at the perfect lip-syncing when Luke says “Home…” and dashes off. A friend actually says it brought a tear to his eye.

So very, very clever.

My wife and I were watching these videos over the weekend. She said “I didn’t even know the sewer snake had a name.” I said it was probably something only true Star Wars nerds would know.

Kinda disappointed that in “Luke Is In The Desert And Whining” they didn’t throw in a reference to going to Toshi Station to pick up some power converters. Waaaahh…

Has “Weird” Al commented yet? He has to be impressed. If he had recorded it himself or co-written it, I would not have been surprised.

First I had heard of that name, and I am an old nerd.

I always knew the sewer snake as the Scrod, based on an old fen story about “scrod fingers” being on the menu at a con shortly after the film debuted.

I’m glad I finally clicked, too. I don’t consider myself a big fan of either work. I mean, those two are great and have their rightful place in history and all. But that… that adds new depth to both of them. Fucking brilliant.

And here I’d just listened to Sgt. Pepper again just 3 days ago, re-affirming in my mind just what an amazing album that was.

This mash-up is amazing!

Preach it! Very impressive work.

The “Whine” chorus to “Luke is in the Desert” was right on the mark.

I noticed the SW theme appear in “Imperial Holes.”

Good use of footage of the younger Owen and Beru in “He’s Leaving Home” - quite touching.

And a nice touch to synch the explosion of the Death Star with the famous piano chord at the end of “A Day in the Life.”

I found this - guess there was a lot more to the critter than met the eye: Dianoga | Wookieepedia | Fandom

I see what you did there.

I’ve never really been that into the Beatles (any more than any other band from that era, long before my time) and I must admit, this thread made me go through the tracklist for “Sgt. Pepper’s” and the only song I really like/recognize is Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.

I love this and tell all my friends but no one seems to care.
