Is the mustachioed blob on the Pringles can supposed to represent someone specific? Where did this come from?
munch munch crunch
Maybe it’s supposed to be an idealized “General Store” kind of guy- you know, like that fellow on the “Waltons”; starched shirt, suspenders, etc. Old Time sort of storekeeper. Not that old time general stores ever sold ersatz potato chips in cans.
For real fun, call them up and ask them. I’m sure they’ll get back to you, and maybe even send you free pringles.
When Pringle’s first appeared in the 70’s, they were known as “Pringle’s New-Fangled Potato Chips”. The guy on the can is supposed to be Mr. Pringle and the phrase “new-fangled” is a throwback to the turn of the 20th century when lots of “new-fangled” ideas were coming out - cars, radios, etc…
For those UK residents, I always thought Mr Pringle looked like David Seaman (Arsenal’s keeper). Maybe he makes crisps in his spare time?
I always thought he looked kinda like a sterotypical Italian man from the early 1900’s.
