My canon i9100 has gone wonky. I think it needs a new printhead, which if my research is correct, will cost about $150. I have been jonesing for an 8 color printer since I heard they hit the consumer market. I don’t use the wide format capability because I have never found a good source of paper so I refuse to seriously think about the 10 color wide format printer they have there taunting me with its three blacks. The canon i8500 caught my eye, but is is not listed in the current cannon website with all the other printers so I don’t know what gives there; it looked like a good choice. I want to print borderless 8.5" X 11" at photo quality. I would use the double sided feature. The main uses for this printer will be printing photos, recipes, and worksheets. I only want one printer. Any suggestions? should I just try to fix this one, or buy new? If I buy, which one?
Don’t know how much you’re planning to spend, but I love my Epson R1800. The only problem is it uses UltraChrome inks and there aren’t a lot of paper choices available in the store. I order paper from Red River Paper, which someone recommended here. Of course, lots of Epson papers will work as well (but not all, again the UltraChrome).
My photo printouts are pretty breathtaking. I use it mostly to do 16-page property brochures with “bleeds” (i.e. Borderless) and my clients are very impressed with them.
I’m sure if you’re not looking for “breathtaking”, there are probably some perfectly fine printers for cheaper that will use more types of paper.
Well, I am holding a grudge against Epson, and I do like having paper choices.
I meant to add, that I am willing to spend up to $450, but would like to spend less.
I’m VERY happy with my Canon i9900 and the Canon line of papers.
