Those pushing their bodily worth toward web-standards and separation of content and presentation will resoundingly reply, “YES!” Tables are meant for tabular data, like showing a spreadsheet, not for layout. In some cases, yes, tables will be easier. But the easier way may not always be the best way; refer: Why tables for layout is stupid: problems defined, solutions offered
For the majority of people who don’t really care, tables are nice and easy and there’s really no gigantic end-of-the-world problem with them. Browsers will not demand CSS layouts any time soon.
For me though, it feels nice to subscribe to an ideal.
raises hand That would be me. I simply could not get the style sheet to work for Treehouse, so I went back to the table. Time was running out (she updated her web site yesterday with a link to mine and the lyrics) so I had to have something up there. Maybe soon when I have more time to really ponder on it, I’ll go back to the problem. Until then, Reply’s right, tables did exactly what I needed and wanted, so I used them for that particular song. I know I’ll have to revisit it because she just sent me new lyrics for other songs that won’t be made public until the album is released, and one of them is formatted like Treehouse, only much more complicated.
I appreciate everyone’s helpful suggestions and thoughts. Reply solved the problem I asked about in the OP, so though I wouldn’t mind talking more about style sheets, I think we’ve gone way beyond General Questions. I’d need a Tutorial thread for beginners. This thread has helped start that process for me. Thanks!
