While in Task Manager, I noticed that if you right-click on a process, you get a menu that has a “set priority” option. What is priority, and why is it important?
Higher priority tasks get run first by the task scheduler. This doesn’t make much of a difference for most people, but if you are running a fairly complex system with multiple processes fighting for cpu time, then setting the priorities determines which tasks or threads end up getting more cpu time.
If words like “multitasking” and “threads” and “priority inversion” don’t mean much to you, then don’t muck with the task scheduler.
