I’ll give this one bump, in hopes of getting a few more names.
Chris Webber went to high school in Detroit and returned there to play for the Pistons last season.
Charles Rogers is from Saginaw, MI, and currently plays for the Detroit Lions, although his star status is debatable.
Brady Quinn is from Columbus, OH, and he currently plays for the Browns. He’s only a rookie, but I’d say most football fans know who he is.
Ken Griffey, Jr. grew up in Cincinnati, and currently plays for the Reds.
Shawn Springs is from the DC area and plays for the Redskins.
But he became a star long before he returned. There are 1001 examples of pro athletes that became stars someplace else then returned to their hometown to continue playing, often at the end to their career.
I’m fairly sure Isaiah Thomas grew up in Detroit and played most, if not all, of his career here.
Phil Cavaretta – 1945 MVP and four-time all-star, born in Chicago and played all his career with the Cubs and White Sox.
George Halas. Born in Chicago, famous as player and owner of the Chicago Bears.
Bruce Harper grew up in Englewood, New Jersey and played for the NY Jets, who actually play in Secaucus, NJ which is pretty close.
The only other famous Englewood people are John Travolta and Anne Morrow Lindberg.
He’s from Chicago, and went to college at Indiana U.
Interesting bit of trivia. Junior has the same birthplace and birth date (Donora, PA and November 21) as Hall of Famer Stan Musial.
Dennis Eckersley was born in Oakland and grew up in a suburb about 20 miles south.
While he had a solid career with the Indians and Red Sox, when he was traded to A’s in 1987 he went on to win the MVP, Cy Young, and a ring playing for Oakland.
And he went into the HoF as an Oakland Athletic.
