Pro Wrestlers who were always either "faces" or "heels".

How about Abdullah the Butcher? I can’t remember or imagine him working as a face.

Long before my time, but was Gorgeous George ever a face?

JYD worked as a heel in Stampede, as “Big Daddy Ritter”. Think he came in to Mid South as a heel, then turned babyface under booker Ernie Ladd. I want to say Buck Robley was involved in his turn, but I’ve forgotten the details. He teamed with Robley against the Freebirds shortly after turning.

Silento Rodriguez. Pretty sure he was legitimately deaf.

Abby did a few shots as a babyface. Think he teamed with Dusty Rhodes as a mystery partner in Atlanta at least once…and probably turned on Dusty during or after the match. Also sorta-kinda-almost remember something from Texas, possibly involving a split with manager Gary Hart, but I may be confusing that with something else.

Incidentally, he’s got a restaurant in Atlanta called Abdullah the Butcher’s House of Ribs & Chinese Food. I hope to go there someday. Think I may bring my own fork, though…

Shows what a complete clusterfuck of bad booking the nWo was by the end of it’s run that they needed to force Dusty on them as a ‘spokesman’.

The OP technically asks if someone has ever been strictly a heel but then it talks about runs. Abdullah may have had a one off with Dusty that wouldn’t be a run. The thing with Gary Hart would though. I remember something like that too but I remember it in florida ( CWF fan ).

I know about his restaurant and would love to go there when I visit my sister but she’s never really been supportive of the idea.

From what I understand, it’s located in a rough area of Atlanta. My wife isn’t thrilled about the idea of visiting there, either. For some reason, she fails to see the attraction of possibly getting to take a picture with Abby jabbing me in the head with his fork.:confused::confused:

Abby has always been one of my favorites.

How about the Hamiltons, Jody and Larry? They ran as the Assassins for years and Larry was the Missouri Mauler. I don’t recall either of them getting any face time either specifically but vaguely remember one of the assassins maybe helping Dusty Rhodes in an angle one time.

Jody Hamilton did a face turn as the Assassin in Smoky Mountain (I think). His son, Nick Patrick, was involved…think Nick was working as a referee that was intentionally injured or beat down, and Jody was seeking revenge.

He also had a short babyface run in Mid South, as a mystery partner for Ernie Ladd against the Samoans…before turning on Ladd. I think it lasted about two weeks on television, but they went around the horn with tag matches before the turn.

You’re late, but thanks for the Mid-South link. The Flair-Reed match looked like a training match for the matches they would later have in Florida Championship Wrestling. Probably the best Reed ever looked, but back then Flair could make anyone look like a champ.

I would have loved to see that turn with his son. Jody was another wrestler I enjoyed watching very much. Woulda been fun to see a good guy assassin.

So, maybe Larry Hamilton is still in play as possibly never appearing as a face?

I read through the “Never worked face” thread I linked at Wrestling Classics and found one mention of an interview with him saying he had worked as a baby, but preferred heeling. No details were posted, though.

George the Animal, the Iron Sheik, Baron Zacluna <sic?> spring to mind as great bad guys. Chief Jay, Bruno, Haystacks always had the white hats. It seems to me in the old days there was less crossing between face and heel.

Was Brett Hart a bad guy in the WWE?

Yep. He spent considerable time as the Hart Foundation with Jim Neidhardt and Jimmy Hart as their mouthpiece.

Owen spent time as face and heal but how about the other Hart brothers? They weren’t as successful as Bret and Owen, but were they all faces?

I grew up in Calgary where the Harts are from. The brothers (5 or 6) and Jim Neidhart (a brother in-law) were always the good guys. Of course when your father is the promoter, I guess that helps.

I don’t remember Mr. Wrestling II as ever having a run as a heel.

I think the same goes for the Von Ericks. Fritz was a classic heel in his time but I don’t think any of his sons were anything but pure 100% faces.

He had a great run as a heel in Mid South. Started with him as a mentor/tag partner to Magnum T.A., then turned on him, working a grumpy old man thing. Walked out on T.A. during a tag match against the Midnight Express with a “Loser gets lashes” stipulation. He may have also heeled in Southeastern/Continental, and I think he was the heel in a feud against Mr. Wrestling I (Tim Woods) in Georgia until they buried the hatchet.
