  1. War Games 1996: Sting comes out to beat the hell out of the nWo, proving once and for all that the nWo’s Sting was a fake. But then he gives Luger a rude gesture and leaves Team WCW to its fate.
  2. Survivor Series 2014: Sting makes his WWE debut after the Authority rigs their match against the sole survivor of Team Cena, allowing Dolph Ziggler to get the win as sole survivor and getting the Authority fired
  3. Clash of the Champions X, February 1990: Ole Anderson tells Sting that they’re kicking him out of the Four Horsemen for refusing to relinquish his World Title shot against Ric Flair. Then Flair, Ole, and Arn give him the traditional Horseman send-off.
  4. Clash of the Champions I ,March 27, 1988. In a show aired on TBS to counterprogram Wrestlemania IV Sting wrestles to a 45 minute draw with then NWA World Champion Ric Flair which heles establishes Sting as a main event level wrestler,.
  5. Nitro, 10/22/96; Sting appears in his trenchcoat and black-and-white facepaint for the first time (not the Crow makeup yet, just a black-and-white version of his previous facepaint) and tells the audience that “The only thing for sure about Sting is that nothing’s for sure”
  6. AEW Revolution 2024: Sting and Darby Allin retain the AEW World Tag Team Title against The Young Bucks in Sting’s retirement match. During the contest, Sting’s sons Garrett and Steven, dressed as Surfer Sting and Wolfpac Sting, respectively, hit Stinger Splashes on the Bucks.
  7. Early in his career, Sting was in a Road Warriors knockoff tag team called The Bladerunners, with the man who would go on to become The Ultimate Warrior. Although they were green and only lasted a heartbeat, the face paint and hair style established his edgy look for years to come.
  8. Great American Bash, July 7, 1990. Sting defeats Ric Flair, winning the NWA Heavyweight Championship.
  9. Uncensored 1997: Sting beats up all four members of Team nWo (Hall, Nash, Savage, and finally Hogan) after they win the triangle battle royal match

I was watching this match live on TV and I think I caught onto the ruse at about the same time as the arena crowd, who started chanting “Eddie!” before Rey unmasked him and revealed his identity. This match happened just a week or two after Bill Goldberg’s debut, so it was entirely plausible at the time that this was another anonymous guy who was about to shock the world of wrestling.
