Problem Making A Copy Of My Access DBase

I want to burn a copy of my MS Access database on a disc. The goal is to take it home, load it onto my computer and use it as a basis for some other databases so I don’t have to re-invent the wheel. (I am not doing anything illegal…this is a database I created here at work and they don’t care if I take copies home.)

So I found the dbase on hard drive, clicked, copie, pasted and burned it to CD. When I go in to verify I copied it, all is well except it keeps coming up “read only”.

Maybe it is too early and I am too tired, but what am I doing wrong?

Any file on a CD is read-only meaning you can’t save any changes back to the CD. MS Access Databases work by saving any record changes back to the Database, so editing on the CD will not work. Instead copy it only your harddrive at home. Right-click the file, select properties, and unclick the read-only check box. Should fix your problem.

Any files that you burn to a CD are “read only” (well…except if you don’t finalize the session, and format the CD to let you read/write to it). So what you need to do is copy that database from the CD to your hard drive, right click on the file, then take the check mark out of the box that says “read only”. You should be fine after that…Enjoy!

Or, what larsenmtl just said

Duh! I am such an idiot! I knew that!

It was indeed a brain flatulance, just as I expected.

I had this same exact “problem” about a year ago…maybe I should put my head in the tray and burn this info onto my brain for once and for all.

Thank you!

now let me see…to get to the other side of the room I put one foot in front of the other…
