I have the joy of owning a shitty car. One unfortunate problem I have now is that my battery died. This would normally be no problem - just swap the battery. This I did.
However, the battery dying triggered the Pursuit Anti-Theft system. To my everlasting joy, the car alarm goes off… extra loud… every time you open the door, and it prevents the car from starting. (Imagine my joy.)
I see the device hooked up here. It’s a little box screwed under the steering wheel area. It likes to flash a ltitle red diode at me, and otherwise has a swqitch which, AFAIK, does nothing. Any ideas?
Generally, you will need to use the remote to stop the alarm, turn the key on, and flip that switch on the underdash box back and forth 3 times and you will be reset and good to go.
Well, it wasn’t crap at the time. Now it’s turned 12 and been beaten into a golf-ball by hail. it runs just fine (Honda) but it looks awful. It’s actually one of the most-stolen cars in America, or was.
I bought it used from the dealer. The original owner installed it, almost certainly right when it was new. What I didn’t know is that this model of anti-theft switch came with an after-market keyless entry system (they weren’t standard in 2000). That’s what the problem was, since the usual reset method wasn’t available to me. The owner never gave it to the dealer, who never asked about it, and never passed it to me.
I was fine with the alarm being wired. I just wasn’t so pleased when it disabled the car.
