problems with my MTD riding mower.

i have an mtd riding mower i bought used, it is about ten years old. when i have the deck set on the highest setting the mower still cuts to low and scalps the grass.

i went to a mower repair shop, not a yuppie one with beautiful settings of mowers under fancy lights, this guy chews tobacco, think slingblade. he said someone comes in there every single day with the same damn problem. he claims all mtd mowers have a built in factory defect, when it comes to mower deck height.

his only recommendation was to put bigger tires on the mower. this would cost more than i paid for the damn thing.

has anyone else had this problem and invented a solution?

Try mowing that spot from another direction.
The problem is your yard is not level.
The better mowers have a anti scalp feature, usually adjustable rollers or skis and a different method of hanging the deck so it sort of floats that help keep that from happening. Even then it still scalps sometimes.
Or maybe just plant a tree there.

You can search the net for ‘MTD riding mower cutting height’ or something like that, there
might be a solution or call the manf.
