The comment about the negative Pier One reference reminded me: Ford no longer advertises during The Simpsons because they were offended by an episode which featured Homer misusing an electric car called the Electaurus, an obvious play on the Ford Taurus. Other car brands have been more positively referenced: after hearing that Marge will be reading from Homer’s Oddysey, Homer believes the story will be about a Honda minivan he once leased, which he then waxes poetically about.
After Marge fell in love with the Bulky lumberjack (a reference to the mascot of Brawny paper towels), Homer attempted to find a product mascot to turn him on. The only thing he could find was a jar of Newman’s Own salad dressing. He imagined Paul Newman’s image (voiced by himself) saying to Homer, “I’ll tell you what I told Redford- not a chance!”
