This thread is to recognize Americans who put their livelihoods on the line by resisting the White House regime in a principled and high-profile way.
(It doesn’t include Democratic politicians; opposition is part of their job description.)
I’m thinking of people like US Attorney Danielle Sassoon. She was ordered by a Trump loyalist to dismiss corruption charges against New York City mayor Eric Adams. Instead, Sassoon resigned and made public her reasons for doing so.
Another such figure is Harvard president Alan Garber. Today, Garber announced that the university would not cooperate with White House demands regarding its curriculum, hiring, and admissions. He did so despite the Trump regime threatening to withhold billions of dollars in contracts or grants.
In the months and years to come, let’s hope that other Americans in important positions take similar public stands.
If only more viewed this as so.
Acting Social Security Administration commissioner Michelle King refused to provide access to private information to DOGE, and was fired.
In addition to Sassoon, John Keller (acting head of the DOJ Public Integrity Section), Kevin Driscoll (head of Criminal Division), and Hagan Scotten (assistant US Attorney with the Southern District) resigned rather than to follow through on dropping corruption charges on New York City Mayor Eric Adams, and Denise Cheung (head of the criminal division in in the Washington DC office) resigned after refusing to open a grand jury investigation into Biden climate change efforts and use that investigation to illegally freeze funding, citing that “…the quantum of evidence did not support that action.”
Over 20 unnamed employees resigned from the United States Digital Service after it was renamed to DOGE and headed (or not?) by Elon Musk as a “special government employee”, stating in a collective letter that, “We will not use our skills as technologists to compromise core government systems, jeopardize Americans’ sensitive data, or dismantle critical public services.”
