I’ve always pronounced this word as “IN-dus-tree.” That’s also the way I’ve typically heard it pronounced in my part of the country (Southeastern US). However, I have at various times heard it pronounced as "INNN-DUS-tree (where the first syllable is just slightly lengthened and the second is also empasized) or “in-DUS-tree” (little or no emphasis on the first, but strong emphasis on the second). Are these typically regional pronunciations, and if so, what regions?
I don’t know. I’m from the northeast and I say it the way you do. I know people from all different parts of the US and I’ve never heard it said differently before. I don’t know about people in other english speaking countries, though. Maybe they say it differently.
