Pronunciation Poll: How do YOU say …

Surely most of you who gave your pronunciation of “processes” as either

PRO sess ez or PRO sess eez

meant that first syllable to rhyme with “bra” or “rah” rather than “crow”, did you not? If I’m not mistaken, PRAH sess is the norm in the US, while PRO sess is common in Canada.

Another one I heard on TV today:

fructose: FROOK tose or FRUCK tose?

Until today I had always heard (and used myself) the former.

Jesus Christ, you guys really suck at spelling.

I keed! I keed!

That’s so interesting since all the americans I know pronounce Oregano as ‘O-reg-AH-no’ (i’ll cite William Shatner in Star Trek: Generations as an example) whereas all the Brits and Aussies I know pronounce it as Orr-eee-gah-no. I’m in the latter category.

Aluminium - Al-Oh-Min-ee-um for Aussies and Brits, A-Lew-min-um for Americans.
