proof of payment

I scraped a girl’s car in a parking lot a few weeks ago. I am not submitting it to my insurance. My question is, is a personal check an OK way to send this girl the money? Not that I think she is going to try to screw me over, but just incase she does I want to have proof. I figured personal check would be the best because both of our banks will have a record of it. I also have a copy of the estimate that will show the same amount as the check I will be sending her. any thoughts?

That should do the trick. When the canceled check comes back from the bank, with your monthly statement, clip it to the estimate, and stash it someplace safe for a few years.

great. thanks!

You should also write a statement on the back saying something to the effect that by endorsing and cashing this check all costs for the accident are paid in full. Even better would be a separate release statement signed by the person with specifics of the accident. Visit a stationary store and see if they have such a pre-printed form. The cashed check by itself is not good proof that all damages have been covered i.e. doctor bills, rental car, etc.
