Let’s start with the “laws” of mathematics. There are actually no such things. There are various mathematical systems which start from a few axioms and methods, and continue from there. So all of mathematics - addition, subtraction, etc, starts with the successor function and I think a 0. And of course there is both Euclidean and non-Euclidean geometry, both of which are correct depending on which axiom you start with.
So, scratch math.
We don’t truly understand the “laws” of science, but much of them might come from simpler rules and systems.
As for moral laws - while you and I agree with the law against rape, your very Bible practically mandates it for certain conquered enemies. So I’m not seeing it as an absolute moral rule, but for us a derived one based on the very non-Biblical view of women as equal to men with equal rights. Marital rape was perfectly fine in the US until not all that long ago.
Plus, two examples of things we mostly all agree on does not an absolute moral code make. Is eating meat moral or immoral? How about same sex marriage? There are tons of other examples. And where do we find this absolute morality? The Bible is so full of contradictions, we don’t find it there. Judaism doesn’t even pretend it is there - see the Talmud, the world’s first message board.
And as for logic - if God came up with the laws of logic, how come a heathen Greek first discovered it? The Bible is not a very logical document.
BTW, kudos to the OP for actually writing something coherent, and I hope he/she sticks around to discuss it.
This is it? This is your big finish? All that crap about absolute logic and science and math and you just throw it all out the window and declare you win because the bible says you win? That’s just sad.
If that’s what the bible teaches (and I dont seem to remember that bit), then it’s wrong. Because I don’t believe in god. It’s an option, regardless of what you think the options are, and it’s the one I take after considering all other numerous options you fail to take into account. If you want to use the Bible as your authority, you need to show that it is actually an authority, and not the politically motivated collection of primitive superstitious stories it appears to be.
Whenever I see posts like this one here or on other message boards, I have to wonder what’s motivating the posters. Literally no one responds with, “Wow! Your post was so insightful, and now I’m convinced of whatever ill-informed armchair philosophical argument you’re talking about. I base all of my major decisions in life on drive-by message postings, and now I’ve seen the light!” I’m a mathematician in real life, and like every other mathematician, I’ve gotten unsolicited word-salad treatises purporting to prove that the real numbers are countable, that Fermat’s last theorem can be proved with three pages of high-school algebra, and so on. I never respond to them, of course, and it’s not like anyone here is encouraging witnessing and similar nonsense here. Still, there’s no shortage of wandering posts like this one, even without any reinforcement. Do these posters have jobs? Do they have real-life friends they babble with? Do they not genuinely not understand the difference between what they’re saying and what one would read in a philosophy paper or book? (I admittedly have a low opinion of philosophers, but there’s a least some bar there, even if it’s a low one)? Do they think, like street evangelists, that they’ll finally find someone who cares about…whatever it is that they’re saying…if they just pester enough people?
Have I got a deal for you … I like your style … I want you to walk away a happy person … I’ve a cousin down in The Valley and he can get top quality functions from the Eigen Republic … just off the boat … because I want to be your friend … I can get one for you wholesale … (will you sign a waiver?) … easy financing … (do you know what usery is?) … did I mention I like your style … someone like you deserves the best on the market … beer? wine? high ball? … let’s talk numbers … it’ll cost you a mere $1,200 or $1,500 … depending on when you look …
I want to take care of you, trust me here, you’re entitled to this wave function … don’t settle for anything less …
I don’t think it’s difficult, I think it’s impossible. We don’t even need to set the bar that high, forget proof, how about just some evidence one deity’s existence is even statistically more likely?
Collapsed wave function!? My mechanic didn’t tell me anything about that! Jesus [heh!], how much is that going to cost me?!! I’m in the Mid-Atlantic area.
Oh, this is going to cost you … what I can do around here is one thing … but shipping a wave function … to the middle of the Atlantic Ocean … tariffs and excise taxes alone will cost another $1,000 … dealer prep, options, licensing … did I mention we have terrific financing …
Say … there wouldn’t happen to be a cat involved, is there?
