Properties of structural C channels

Anyone know how the average flange thickness (tf) is defined? I’ve been looking through my AISC ASD book with no luck. Been searching the web for mill tolerances that may lead me to an answer, also no luck.

Is it from the center of the outside face of the flange, or inside?

I’m trying to create AutoCAD blocks (and being super anal) and want my areas to be correct.

I checked my Steel Manual (13th edition) and the only flange information I found was that C shapes have a slope of approx. 16.66% on the inner flange surfaces and MC shapes have a slope other than 16.66% on the inner surfaces.

ASTM A6 / A6M - 09 (Standard Specification for General Requirements for Rolled Structural Steel Bars, Plates, Shapes, and Sheet Piling) defines the general requirements for rolled shapes, including dimensions. It may contain the information you’re looking for.

Thanks! I forgot about the slope. With that and the K value, I should be able to create it accurately.
