In this thread on the recent landing on Mars there is a link to a Fox article on the topic. Being cough a respected news source, I’d hope that their sponsors are not scams.
On that page is a sponsor’s ad from Planitary Investments that offers real estate on our closest natural neighbor.
IIRC the Moon, along with all non-Earth bodies, belongs to all in the human race, although I can’t find a link to that agreement.
What’s up with these offers? Are they for real or an easy scam?
It’s crap, of course. Toss it in with that “naming stars” $#!~. I can’t find a link (I’m busy watching the Spirit landing on NASA TV), but IIRC, he claims he’s registered with the UN. Yeah. He send a letter to them saying “I claim the moon!”; I don’t recall if he got a reply or not.
You can’t buy realestate on other moons/planets.
You can’t pay to have a star named after you.
You can pay to have someone mail you a nicely printed certificate, but I hear Kinkos does it cheaper.
Fox actually makes crappy news sandwiches. Between shows a few days ago, they gave a synopsis of the news – perhaps two minutes long. They began with a story or two presented in a traditional objective journalistic style. Then they moved to a piece about one of the Democratic candidates and made statements similar to " The Candidate made several mistakes last week and was unwilling to admit that he was wrong." Then they returned to an objective style for their final piece.
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing!
I have absolutely no idea or opinion as to the truth of what Fox said. That is not my point of contention. But what was said was deliberately journalistically unprofessional.
In other words, their news has propoganda in the middle. Political commentary should be kept separate and labelled as such.
Sadly, many networks now don’t seperate news from opinion. Often a talking head is either an expert spouting off about his opinion or an anchor spouting off the network’s opinion.
Anyway, the origional question was answered, so this thread doesn’t have much purpose anymore.
