I found many articles on it when I did a Google search. But articles like this one would be typical.
As I understand it, there already are provisions in the law if you, say, object to performing an abortion. But this proposed law makes it in fact even easier to discriminate, not just against procedures you are opposed to, but people as well. As the above article says:
Anyways, I do have a question about this. How will this affect existing local ordinances protecting gays? As I understand it, there is a provision in the bill to protect those already protected on a state level (race, ethnicity, etc.). But presently gays are not protected on any state level in Michigan. So would this law essentially invalidate all local ordinances? And for that matter, what about medical facilities that have private policies protecting gays? Would this nullify those too?
Someone please answer these questions. They do have me worried, or concerned at the least for my home state.
