As much as i think that there are already too many forums here (IMHO and Cafe Society), there has been an increasing amount of clutter of the “the moon landings were a hoax”, “prove to me that crop circles were not made by aliens” varieties that perhaps we need a conspiricy/paranormal forum?
It would give the art bell crowd amongst us an outlet, and allow those of us who don’t want to deal with such things a way to avoid it altogether.
On the other hand, maybe giving them their own forum provides a sense of legitimacy that I don’t really want to give them.
I’m a moderator at a different chat site (blatent plug…http://www.physicsforums.com/) and we have a separate forum for pseudoscience. It’s kind of good to keep all that stuff in one place so it does not distract from more scientific forums. However, the major drawback that I see is that there is not enough debunking going on because, as zuma said, other people avoid it. Plus, some people may get upset/confused if their innocent questions are thrown in with what might be considered a rubbish heap.
Anyway, IMHO, I don’t think the SDMB would want to legitimize any pseudoscience by dedicating a forum to it. But, then again, I don’t work here!
So, you want a forum devoted to ignorance here? On a message board devoted to fighting ignorance?
Even if you had it, we’d probably end up with someone like Davd B. in charge of it, and that would be rather amusing.
(I do not mean to imply anything bad about David, just using him as an example of someone with very little tolerance for such things. Whether you think that’s a good or bad quality is up to you.)
