You know, you are absolutely right. Why should we consider sex offenders a threat after they have served their time . :rolleyes:
They are predators and threats. The online sites require the offender to voluntarily notify the towns when they move but many don’t do it and the site is often out of date or incorrect.
Plus the site will not include juveniles, such as the 14 year old who touches a 6 year old girl.
Dateline’s series To Catch a Predator has had guys on there who have been caught before but done it again. The public needs to know about them.

And they’ve also had guys who have never been caught. That’s my point; vigilance should extend everywhere.

So petition that the laws be changed such that sex offenders be permanently incarcerated or executed after conviction for a sufficiently offensive crime. Don’t mess around with stuff like scarlet letter license plates or living restrictions that serve as nothing more than extralegal harassment and spurs for vigilante crime.

If this had happened in the times of the big bad 1980’s witch hunt, we’d have wound up with not only lots of dead kiddie rapers, which isn’t all that bad if you ask me, but lots of dead completely innocent people.

Incarceration doesn’t work for any non-financially motivated crime. But torture and arbitrary punishments are even worse, in that you end up hurting a lot of innocent people on the way too.

Well there ya go then. Find a state that supports sufficiently harsh penalties to meet your taste, and move there. Don’t support harebrained measures that are equally vindictive against persons who merely hand out condoms and those who rape and murder.

Then they should be in prison, don’t you think? If you can pass a law for green license plates, why not just pass a law for life in prison, no parole for child predators? Why pretend that license plates will make your children any safer?
