Good lord. Are they looking to get these guys killed? I saw some previews of an unlucky Joe getting his face kicked in by Sapp, so I guess they didn’t tell Bob, “Try not to kill anybody.” It looked like the poor Joe got hit by a dump truck.
Are they insane? You couldn’t pay me enough to climb in the ring with Sapp. The guy is a wrecking ball.

Didn’t see the show, so I can’t comment on it (details, please?), but I know a little about Sapp. Failed NFL prospect (played in one game, IIRC); moved to K1 shortly afterwards. Was a largely immoble no-talent slugger and didn’t amount to much. Don’t know what he’s been up to since, but the producers apparently thought that he was inept enough that he wouldn’t do any serious damage.
Was this an actual fight? Really, really bad idea introducing any violent sport into a show like this, much less anything in the realm of mixed martial arts. For all of Sapp’s incompetence, the fact remains that a full-on blow from a big powerhouse is going to hurt. Not a problem for the likes of Cro Cop, but putting a “Joe” into a situation like that is just irresponsible.
Should’ve used someone like Royce Gracie. Still no contest, but at least it would only be egos getting busted up.
Yeah, he’s a big time NFL washout. He was cut by multiple teams before he moved on. But he’s not all that terrible as a mixed martial artist. His professional record is something like 10-3. I’ve seen footage of him gassing out very quickly, and actually having difficulty staying upright (because he has proportionally tiny little chicken legs.) But I’ve also seen him keying up on opponents and completely ignoring blows to the body and head while hitting the other guy like a dump truck.
The show hasn’t aired yet. It’ll be this Thursday on Spike, but the previews look pretty brutal. There’s one clip of some poor sap of a Joe getting kicked across the ring like he was a pillow getting booted across the room.
I mean, yeah, Sapp is not a great fighter. He’s slow, he’s got limited cardio ability. His legs are weak. But he’s fighting Joes that are 1) half his weight, and 2) not professional fighters. I don’t see one of them being able to avoid taking a beating long enough to figure out how to bring Sapp down. And he is HUGE. And extremely strong.
Despite looking like one of the baddest dudes on the planet, Sapp is a pussy. There’s really no two ways about it. He’s a unapologetic, unreformed 'roid-head with no heart and no gastank. IIRC he fell down and cried when Crocop broke his orbital bone. Saku kept fighting when the same thing happened.
