Proximity Sensors (or How do you know when the folks are coming home?)

Ok, so let’s say my folks go out for the weekend and end up returning earlier than planned. They come home to empty booze bottles and cigarette ash all over the place. This is not a good thing. I have no warning, and the place is a mess.

I’d like to avoid this, and similar, situations. What do you suggest ? What have you tried ? And how effective was it ?

Ideally I’d like, say, a small transmitter in the car that communicates with a small beeper at home. As soon as the two devices are within a certain range (say, atleast 1km) the beeper at home should start ringing. 1km should give me the bare minimum amount of time to clean up. Does anything of the sort exist ? Preferably cheap. A search for proximity sensors brought up strange and expensive stuff. I’m looking for a basic, cheap solution.

What other work arounds can you think of ? I need suggestions. I’ll try anything. Thanks

Don’t make a mess?
Clean up after yourself?

The first is usually quite effective; I’m still working on the second one.

Hey, you said you’d try anything.

You can pay me to keep a lookout…

I am not very expensive, and just like a proximity sensor… I need the money upfront, and I am not always 100%

Save some for them and place it right in their hands when they walk in.
Well it would work for me if my kid did it!

Do you have a dog? They seem to sense their owner’s arrival a while before a human can. I know when I was 16, if my German Shepherd perked up from his resting spot, I knew it was time to spray the lysol and put away the… ummm ‘cigars’.

Thanks for your “suggestions” so far :stuck_out_tongue:

cuate, no dog.

Is there no one in here that’s been in a similar predicament ?

Ah, well, I guess I’ll get your answers once you finish with all that booze and put away those, um, cigars. I’ll be here, waiting…

pssst, they’re gonna be gone again this weekend… so, lemme know soon, mkay ?

Best I can find is a driveway sensor. The one listed here only has a 100 ft range, but I’ve seen them up to 1000ft. Anything more than that might have to be a custom job.

Cheers!
