Proxy question (esp. re. using Endnote)

I got Endnote 8 recently to help me with all my citations and bibliographic info for my dissertation. It’s a great program, and i think it will save me hours of work and act as an excellent database for all my notes and other stuff.

A great feature of Endnote is that you can use it to connect directly to almost 500 library catalogs and databases, from which bibiolgraphic information can then be downloaded, saving much typing. Most of these library catalogs and databases are free, non-subscription services and pose no problem.

But there are a few that require subscriptions in order to gain access. One of those, and the one that’s most important for me, is the OCLC Worldcat database. My university has a subscription, and i can browse the database from home by configuring my browser to use my university’s proxy server settings.

But i’m having a bastard of a time trying to get Endnote to connect to Worldcat. It seems that there should be some way of changing my settings so that Endnote can gain access to Worldcat via the proxy server, but i’m damned if i can work out how to do it.

The Endnote instructions have this to say:

But i went to Control Panel > Network Connections and couldn’t find any Proxies tab anywhere. Maybe i’m looking in the wrong place.

The Endnote instructions also had this to say:

I tried configuring my internet control panel for the proxy server, but this didn’t seem to make any difference to Endnote. I still can’t connect to Worldcat.

If anyone has any experience with this, or can offer any suggestions, i’d love to hear them.
