When is the time to prune hydrangea’s so that one does not interfere with bluming. Looking it up on line tells me about new and old wood, but I am confused as to when is the best time. Now? The Spring?

I don’t know what the difference in types is, but I’ve trimmed ours in early spring (that’s May in New England) and in the fall. It never fails to bloom.
