Pubic hair in ads--since when?

Well, the FCC’s reasoning is, you request cable in your home and pay for the content, so you knowingly accept what is broadcast. If you don’t like what’s on the cable, you can cancel it and watch TV over the air, which is regulated. And if they broadcast certain programming on cable, it is assumed that’s what’s popular and most viewers don’t have a problem with it. And there are parental controls on cable which can block programming you think is inappropriate for your kids.

I only called it basic cable to simplify my description. It’s actually digital broadcast TV, fully under the control of the FCC.

If that’s true, it’s scary that so many women are having an area of their body waxed so many times, the hair isn’t growing back.

If the woman herself wants to do that, that’s one thing, but if she’s doing it because a man demands it, for the wrong reasons, that’s another story.

There’s a word for that: merkin.

Probably not entirely SFW link to Wikipedia:

@dropzone, you do know you can find porn anywhere else on the internet, right? Like, ANYWHERE else.

What channel was it, and in what country did you view it?

merkins?

I seem to recall David Simon mentioning that merkins needed to be used when they were shooting The Deuce which was set in hairier times.

I thought this thread was going to be about a particular brand of razor that I’ve seen advertised lately on during the daylight hours on MSNBC which has “public hair” right in its brand name, not the more vague “body hair” term.

no he’s right I’ve seen that infomercial here and there a few times they get away with it as its a “personal care device” and I was like WTF too …what’s worse is there’s one that’s been shown recently for vibrators and the like too

“worse”…is that really the right word?

Is the trimming of pubic hair really so shocking to people? Are ads for sex toys something to be concerned about?
People trim hair, people have sex. Bodily functions that are no more or no less private than defacting or menstruating and yet we have no concerns about ads relating to products for those.

You can’t get much worse than defacting, as your recent President has shown us.
Yes, our Prime Minister is pretty bad at it too.

On the other side of the spectrum you have Japanese porn mangas, where everything you can imagine and more is drawn: the strangest postures, objects, animals, contorsions, penetrations… and everything is OK, except pubic hair. That is never drawn. I read somewhere that pubic hair is the only thing that would get censored in Japan. I read that ages ago, I have no idea if it was true or more or less exagerated and if it still applies, but recalling the mangas I saw it was so.

That’s actually a very relevant distinction. The biggest reason why the FCC regulates broadcast but not cable is that broadcast bandwidth is a finite resource, and if there weren’t a single entity claiming ownership of it, it would be so crowded that nobody could get any use out of it, and that single entity pretty much must be an arm of the federal government. And since they (which is to say we, the people as a whole) own it, they can control it.

Cable, however, you can increase your available bandwidth without any practical limit, just by running more lines. So any company can run lines and own their own lines, and since they own it, they can control what goes out on it.

aha! Freudian slip. Not my president though, I’m from the UK

Swing and a miss. The activities are not at all shocking, but I object to having them broadcast into my living room.

B-b-b-but, I thought that’s what you call citizens of the USA?? :astonished:

“Trimming” is one thing. I’m not talking about a trim (as I said above :face_with_raised_eyebrow: ). I’m talking about an adult woman removing all pubic hair or virtually all (maybe leaving a little tuft or so-called “landing strip”) such that her genital area looks like that of a pre-pubescent girl aged from birth to about 11-ish years old.

IME, at least for women near cities or metro areas, you can expand that age range to 45 and under. Without getting too much into the numbers, I’d say that at least 2/3 go full bare, and 1/3 go short trim. I’m pretty sure most do it because they prefer it. Comments I’ve heard many times are that the natural way is “dirty” or “unsanitary”. Smh

Without getting into too much detail… um… how do you know this? No judgment, just curious. I know how my gyno knows. Is that your profession also?

Well, I’ve been married twice, to women who were 7 and 14 years younger than me, respectively, and I’ve been single about 20 of the past 30 years. So in my search for the “one”, I have a pretty decent sample size of experience.

Interesting… thank you. Looking forward to your bio when it comes out. :slightly_smiling_face:
