Friday is a day I’m supposed to run on the beach in NYC, but it’s also a day I’m supposed to drive up to Boston, along the shore for most part. Is there anywhere in CT or RI that’s pretty accessbile to the inter-state (I guess I-93), and is a nice public beach that I could break up my long drive with a nice long run on?
ETA: That’s “1/2-way” of course in the title
Nitpick: the interstate highway is I-95, not I-93. And I’d recommend Hammonasset Beach State Park with two miles of beach.
Hammonasset is ok, but like all of Connecticut’s beaches it is kind of crappy due to Long Island blocking it from the open ocean. A nicer beach, and one that is still close to 95, is Misquamicut, which is just over the Rhode Island border and faces the open ocean. Take exit 92 in Connecticut, go right off the exit, a mile down the road take a right onto route 78, and then follow the signs.
Rocky Neck in Niantic CT is also very nice. We enjoy it over Hammonasset.
