Pulp Fiction question

I don’t know. Maybe he lived near there or was visiting someone or something. There are any number of possibilities.

I saw what he had. I wouldn’t be talking about the scene if I hadn’t.

Thank you. People are acting like I’m stupid or something. I don’t recall anything indicating how near or far that intersection was from Butch’s place.

Butch encountering Marcellus like that could have been a total coincidence miles from Butch’s place. The idea that it was a far-fetched coincidence made it more amusing if anything, although I see now that it may not have been such a huge coincidence.

Even more than just interesting, it’s an explicit parallel, as Butch repeats Marsellus’ own words back to him as he’s sitting on his chest and beating the shit out of him on the pawnshop floor.

Actually, I guess it was on his way back, wasn’t it? Butch was feeling all “I’m getting away with it” after killing Vincent and then ran into (literally) Marsellus.

Was it on his way back? I don’t actually recall but thinking about it that makes sense.

Like I said, I’ll have to watch it again, to look for some of the things mentioned here but also just because it’s fun and I haven’t seen it in a while. I think it’s on Netflix, if not I have the DVD somewhere.

It’s on Netflix. Just watched the relevant scene now.

It’s definitely only a few minutes between leaving his apartment building and running into Marcellus. Evidence - when Butch gets into the car, the song “Flowers on the Wall” is playing on the car radio. It’s still playing as he pulls up in front of the building and congratulating himself, and it’s still playing when he sees Marcellus. It’s definitely playing on the radio, not just part of the movie soundtrack, because Butch is singing along to it. So given that it’s a 3:29 song, and it’s a residential area, he’s definitely still close to the apartment building.

I just assumed The Wolf would have a pager.

And I also think it was very near to Butch’s place. Butch was low-rent and the neighborhood where he ran into Mr. Wallace looked pretty low-rent. And as mentioned–“Flowers on the Wall” was already playing when he got into the car, and was still playing when he ran into Mr. Wallace.

It wasn’t just about pride. Not only did Butch NOT throw the fight, as he’d been instructed to do, he took the money Marsellus gave him and bet it on himself! That’s why he had enough cash to disappear to Bora-Bora for the foreseeable future.

Marsellus knew about it, too: After the boxing match, they beat the crap out of Butch’s manager/second to find out what had happened. “He booked!” Butch also had that long conversation in the phone booth with his bookie about how much money he had just made by not throwing the fight.

He never had any intention of going down in the third (or whenever it was) for Marsellus—he had the whole thing planned from the beginning, right down to his getaway. Probably the only things he hadn’t counted on were (a) killing his opponent and (b) Fabienne fucking up with the watch.

If I were Marsellus, I’d’ve been pretty damned pissed off too!

Not at all. If you’re not looking for something in a movie, you’re apt to miss it the first couple of times around. Perfectly natural!

The accident, you mean?

What accident? Butch was stopped at a light, Marcellus started crossing the street in front of him, they look each other, Marcellus says “Motherfucker!” and Butch floored it and hit him. Hardly an accident.

True. I should have said “the attempted hit-and-run murder.” :smack:

Listened to the whole song on youtube.

When Butch gets into the car after retrieving the watch, the line of the song is “If I was walkin’ in your shoes…”

When he’s pulling up to the light, the song is at “Playin solitaire till dawn,”, which is part of the chorus, but while waiting it reaches the line “It’s good to see you I must go.” Going by the youtube version of the song, it’s about 55 seconds from when he first gets into the car until he reaches the light where he sees Marcellus, including a stop in front of his apartment building to congratulate himself “That’s how you’re gonna beat them Butch. They keep underestimating you.” So at best, he’s a block or two from the apartment building when he sees & hits Marcellus. That’s no coincidence.

Knoxville  They’re very proud of that fact.

A lot safer than Indochina too.

Indochina’s perfectly safe as long as you steer clear of any rice bowls large enough to accommodate an armed n**ga.

Trivia: In that scene, Kathy Griffin plays…“Herself”

Kill Bill being a failed pilot kills my theory that the blind piano player is Jules. He walked the long road doing God’s handiwork and God just used him and up and abandoned him to die a miserable death…(See John The Baptist)

Is Fabienne the most annoying GF in the history of movies, or what?

Concur that it was always his plan to win.
