I ahve two question on the two great ultra-violent movies Pulp Fiction and Resevoir Dogs. The first is… was Pulp Fiction a pre-quel to Resevoir dogs? I have seen a refrence in Resevoir Dogs when Joe talks about the boss in Pulp Fiction doing time in the joint. Also Mr. Blonde is John Travolta are brothers. So was Pulp really a pre-quel or what?
My second question is what is in that damn case. I believe the soul theory or that there was nothing at all. Can I have the full theory of the soul and the reasons why. thanks again

They have the same last name (Vega) but I don’t think it was ever stated that they are related.
Some fan came up with the theory that the suitcase contained Marcellus Wallace’s soul. I don’t recall all the details but it was based on the idea that it was something Marcellus found very valuable and one scene where Marcellus was shown with a band-aid on the back of his neck (where presumedly his soul was removed).
I’ve heard that the band-aid was there because Ving Rhames happened to be wearing a band-aid that day; it was not something Tarentino or anyone else planned on. Going beyond that, I don’t see any connection between a bandaged neck and a soul removal. Maybe the suitcase contained Marcellus’ acne medicine.
I read an interview with either Travolta or Madsen where Quentin is toying with an idea on a “Brothers Vega” movie with Vince and Vic (Or Nick) Vega. This was several years ago so I doubt it will go anywhere. There were several common names in the movies, maybe Tarantino was using his friend’s name.
Another idea on the case is that it was the diamonds that Buscemi had from the theft, but I doubt he survived that shooting when he left the wharehouse.
Well Harley I say Pulp was not a pre-quel to rez dogs. They simply had mutual characters. Forinstance take Quentin Tarantino’s other less known movie called ‘Curdled’ the taxi driver Esmirelda is the main character and she is obsessed with death, thats why she is employed as a crime scene clean up person. Rent it, you’ll like it.
As for the royal suitcase…I’d heard the soul theory here. I doubt it. I’d say its either gold. Or really good goldenseal hashish!! The movie has lots to do with drugs the use and the distribution. Thats where the hash theory comes from.
Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs take place in the same universe. The time reference is not quite clear. It could go either way. However, Tarrantino is now doing a movie that is a prequel to BOTH movies. It will have Travolta and Michael Madson and it will be called “The Vega Brothers” (Joygasm!) So, Vic and Vincent Vega are brothers, and are both criminals who have had a rough go of it. The stories of both are interconnected in several ways. Additionally, True Romance takes place in the same universe.
Re: The Briefcase
Quentin behaves in a kind of David Lynch-ish way on this one. It’s the not knowing that makes it powerful, so he won’t commit to any one explanation.
I Like the soul idea. It was Marcellus soul in the briefcase. All of the movie ends up being about God and redemption. God offers a second chance to just about everybody in the movie. Marcellus gets his soul back, and then god indeed comes down from heaven to stop those mutha fucking bullets. Jules hears God’s warning, and changes his life. He lives. Vincent blows it off, and he dies. God gives you a second chance, but he can be vengeful if you ignore him.
There are whole websites that cover these issues really well. 10 minutes on Google should pull up a ton of interesting essays on the subject.

Where have you heard this Vega Brothers idea? I first heard about it in a Playboy interview about 5 years ago, (I really do read the articles) can’t remember if it was Michael Madsen or John Travolta. That’s the last I heard about it.
Straight Dope Staff Report:
Wow! No one has brought up the whole Constituition theory?
The case holds the original copy of the US Constitutuion. Its back lit in the briefcase and that’s why it gives the yellow glow. And why the movie’s opening gives the definition of Pulp. Since the Constitution was printed on cheap pulp paper.
That would be a great explanation, Green Fool, for Vellum Fiction, but I’m afraid it does pretty little for the movie in question.
Fuck.
Very strange . . .Here is a reference, but I looked around a bit more. When this first got announced it was on a bunch of major movie news websites. Now they are gone like the suspiciously missing http://www.mrshowbiz.com annd others. It took a while to find what I was looking for and then . . .
Double fuck.
I also found a bunch or rumours that QT has canceled the project. Or maybe postponed due to Uma’s pregnancy (my bad). But it’s all just heresay now. I swear I read it in the news!!! I think he is trying to go George Lucas on this one and bring it back into secrecy only to hit us hard with it later. Please?
Love the constitution idea, hadn’t heard that one. That would explain why a bunch of clean cut kids were dealing with these gangsters. But, why would they go to a restauraunt first? Jeeze that’s playin’ it cool. “Fuck it. I’m hungry. He can wait for his damn constitution.”
