Greetings old beans!
Just out of sheer curiousity, not seeking medical opinions or anything:
Yesterday I measured my pulse-rate after I’d been sitting down doing not much for a while (oh all right I was ingesting some Chewing-Gum for the Mind). It was 59 bpm. Today I measured it after I’d been sitting down doing not much for a while (reading, nothing very exciting, just the paper). It was 76 bpm.
Now I know that that’s not my resting heart-rate, since I hadn’t just woken up. But my question is, is it usual for the ‘sedentary’ heart rate to vary that much from day to day? And what, besides physical activity, can increase your heart (or pulse)-rate?
And what would be the average resting pulse rate for a 24 year old female?
Just thought of another one: what exercise would cause your cardiovascular system to become most efficient (i.e. give you a low rpr) - swimming? running? etc.
Thanks peeps.
Calling folks, calling folks!
Is anyone there?
Your heart rate varies for numerous reasons, the temperature of the room, anxiety, when you last had a meal, could all impact the heart rate.
Its pretty easy to miss count, as well.
Also, in young, healthy, people the pressure of the lungs on inspiration (taking air in) can slow the heart slightly, so if one takes the pulse during inspiration, a lower pulse might be counted.
I didn’t add a cite for this, because finding one that just describes the phenomenon, without going into great and scary detail about the exaggerated form is nie impossible. If you promise you won’t scare yourself with it, I’ll add one later if you want.
I promise I won’t freak out! I find information about the heart and cardiovascular fitness really interesting.
Ok, Here ya go, you may have to agree to the terms (like not freaking out.) but no registration.
