Punishment for Theadshitting etc...

Why not do Like Giraffe does and add a troll type forum for people that derail threads purposely and/or other aspects of crappy board netiquette?

I just got boxed for an hour because of cheese. My own fault, but no posting in the regular forums for an hour.

Seems to me that you could fit the punishment to the crime by making the length of time long or even longer. I THINK you guys both use the same software and it would make it one hell of a lot easier on the mods.

Any thoughts?

:smack:

dammit…Could a passing mod PLEASE move this to ATMB where I thought I was?

Thanks.

For those of us in the cheap seats … huh?

What’s the difference between a “troll type forum” and the Pit?

You got boxed for … for … cheese? What kind of box?

Moved thread from The BBQ Pit to About This Message Board.

Basically it’s a penalty box forum. Being “boxed” means you can only post in that subforum. At least that’s how I think it works.

It’s a huge long thread that has suffered minimal thread drift. Xploder was put in the penalty box (we just call it The Box) for an hour for hijacking. Better than suspensions; they still get to post. Just in threads in the Box, nowhere else on the board. And other posters can come poke them with sticks and laugh at them for getting sidelined.

ETA: In review, what Gfactor said.

Instead of follwing the thread like Giraffe had just told us all to, even after he opened a thread regarding the hijack in another forum, I posted the following:

CHEESE! CHEESE!! CHEESE!!!

So I got boxed for an hour. Damn good idea too. When tempers start flaring alarmingly around here and the name calling and personal insults get too steep, you can box the offending parties until they calm down.

Or just…heh heh…leave them there.

Oh, thanks for moving this Gfactor.

Just to clarify things a bit, one of the ideas I wanted to play with when setting up my board was using mostly suspension-based punishment instead of multiple warnings then long suspension/banning. To discourage socking, I made a single subforum where suspended posters could still post. This way, they can argue their case or chat with the other inmates while waiting for their sentence to be up.

So far, it’s been a big success. I highly recommend we adopt a similar system here – I think it would remove a lot of pressure from the mods if they could throw someone in the cooling tank for an hour or two rather than disrupt a thread with a big argument about what they did or didn’t do. It also gives the mods an intermediate enforcement tool, which I think would be useful.

It should be easy to set up – you just use the vB infraction system to change someone’s usergroup for a set period of time per infraction point. Mods could do it without need for admin intervention.

Hey, here’s another vote for the Boxing idea - it works really nice over there, and it’s entertaining too.

Not that I think it will be implemented.

So you implemented the sin bin, rather than the red card, Giraffe? How labor intensive is that to accomplish (not the actual keystrokes, but in the sense of having to monitor and then instead of posting a warning, changing their usergroup)? And do you have to undo it to let them out? Or is the release automated?

And, most importantly, does it actually cut down on the incidence of stupidity? That’s the part I think would be the issue…

Show me a 30 page trainwreck on THIS board that’s still on track weeks after it started–go ahead, I’ll wait, I know how the search function is around here.

It works great and I can vouch for the lower level of stupidity at 'Raffe.

And Boxing is dead easy–go do a search on the 'Raffe for April Fool’s Day threads…

It’s as easy as can be. Moderators have a little icon on each post that we click if a post is over the line. A screen comes up and we have a couple of different options for different lengths of time (this is custom and would have to be set up) and we check one of the boxes. We have an option to send a PM to the offender and that is it. The software automatically restores their privileges at the appropriate time.

Giraffe Board Mod.

We used the infraction system which sends them to a temporary usergroup.

The infractions time can be pre-setup or defined at infraction time.

No, no, no.

First the spanking, then the oral sex.

Dude…I ain’t spanking OR blowing you.

Don’t front, dawg, we know you too well! :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh great. You’ve all made the list now.

Bannation pending.
