There was a kids TV show about pirates from the 70s called Captain Pugwash (cardboard cutout animation).

Supposedly…supposedly… it included character names such as Master Bates, Seaman Staines, Simon the Bar Steward and Roger the Cabin Boy.

(Pretty sure it was a gag created by a writer, but let’s not spoil a good story).

Present on board were Master Mate, Tom the Cabin Boy, and Pirates Barnabas and Willy. (No character with the designation of ‘Seaman’ appeared in the show.) Series creator John Ryan successfully won retractions and settlements from Sunday Correspondent and the Guardian after both newspapers claimed that the show’s characters did indeed have smutty names, and that the BBC had taken it off the air as a result.

I saw this character listed somewhere as the largest breasted female comic book character. I would have to actually own the comic book she appeared in to believe they ever created a character like this.

I can’t believe I didn’t come up with this earlier, especially considering his prominence in the Supergirl TV series.

The Martian Manhunter, aka J’onn J’onzz. His name is phonetically similar to the human name John Jones, which is a perfect name to use when you’re impersonating someone, as J’onn did when masquerading as a human in the comics.
