Why is punting blocking so different in college and the pros?
The difference in talent level. The pros on a punt team are professional, and their livelihoods depend on them not missing blocks, on knowing assignments, and how to make adjustments.
Mismatched college teams could have a good team with a future pro, and a bad team with some walk-on trying to block him. If the punter on the bad team is also less talented, he might not get the ball away as quickly, or hit it at the wrong angle.
I guess it’s pretty much the same reason why pro teams are better than college teams as a whole, not just on special teams.
So NFL teams would be poorer at coverage with a college punting formation?
