Puppy Bowl! On Now!

The Puppy Bowl is on!

Kitty half time show!

Bunny cheerleaders!

Animal Planet channel.

I just flipped to it for the kitten part. They have way to much stuff going on for little kitty pea brains to handle. Most of them just look completely bewildered and confused.

My daughter is watching this now.

Dammit. Something this cute has the power to either end or start wars.

Fuck me. Hamsters in the goddamn blimp.

Yeah, that’s some nasty cute they’ve got there.

Not enough beagles, though.

Wow, I just saw Chamomile, described as a “boxer mix.” I’m sorry, but that puppy creeped me out a little. There’s something about his/her eyes that seems… I dunno, unnatural on a dog.

eeeeeee! the cuteness!!! I haven’t seen the bunny cheerleaders, though. The kitten halftime show is a snooze. They are adorableness personified, but they DO look confused. Maybe I should put “Titanic” back on.

The Puppy Bowl is proving to be more exciting than the actual Super Bowl.

PUPPIES!!!

The black lab, was well, quintessentially black-lab-ish: I almost expected him to wedge his body into the water dish and take a nap.

The cocker was as cute as advertised, didn’t want to mix it up much with the other dogs, but I’m sure she will make someone (a girl who will spoil her, natch) a wondeful pet. The pug was absolutely gonzo tho.

Probably because it was a pug/chihuahua mix, and chihuahuas are known to be fearless.

Did the puppies ever liven up? We don’t have TV at home, but Mr. S got to watch a few minutes of it at work, and he said they were pretty much just standing around sniffing each other. He said even the commentators were talking about it.
“So far, not much happening on the field, Bob . . .”

I miss seeing the Bowl Cam. :frowning:

I saw some footage on TV this morning with two dogs really scrapping (IIRC over a ball, too much cuteness for me to remember), and a ref came in and called rough-housing on them - holding them both up for the camera, of course.

I want to have been the person who pitched this.

“I have this great idea . . . we’ll build a set that looks like a football field, and then we’ll put a bunch of puppies in it, and then just get out the cameras and make that our Super Bowl counterprogramming.”

“No, really. We could totally do this.”

I think the truly brave person is the first guy to agree with it, the one who said, “Well, why the hell not?”

Considering it’s Animal Planet, it probably wasn’t that hard a sell.

Scarlett67, next year you need to watch the whole thing, there are down times for the pups but they usually just take a quick breather and they’re up again.

Eh, no cable at home so I didn’t get to see it but I do want to thank the OP for spelling “bowl” correctly. I see enough puppy bowels at work.

I think the original plan was to just have something cheap to fill time while everyone was watching the Super Bowl, but it seems to have worked out beyond their wildest dreams, so I think they could put a little more time into getting it right. The kittens absolutely look dazed and confused. Let them live there and get used to the place a little bit, and get rid of the light show and confetti. If they want to shoot for a while and then edit it down to when they’re actually playing, I don’t think anyone would slam them for a lack of ethics or anything.

Do you remember a TV show from the early 90’s called Dinosaurs; the prehistoric adventures of a family of dinosaurs? In one episode, the patriarch, Earl Sinclair, became head of a TV network. His programming was simple, but popular; one of the shows was Box of Puppies, and it was exactly what it sounds like.

Whether Animal Planet was aware of that when they came up with the Puppy Bowl, I don’t know.

I thought they got the idea from Animals Close Up With A Wide Angle Lens on “South Park”.

Heh, I thought the same thing, Elvis.

And yeah, the kitties looked pretty overwhelmed.

Even braver was the guy who convinced someone to sponsor the hamster piloted blimp.

I’ve seen it in years past, and yeah, it got pretty raucous. Can’t watch it now, though, as we don’t have Dish anymore. I’d have loved to see the roughhousing call!

I do remember that, and I would totally watch that show too!
