Purchasing ethics (and donations to charity)

UshopUgive is a shopping portal where a percentage of the purchase price is given to the charity of your choice if you click through to the store from their website.

I do some purchasing of IT equipment for the organisation I work for and was wondering whether it is ethical/correct/proper to use this website for making my purchases on the “company account”, which amount to much more than I would ever spend on my own, and directing the proceeds toward my personal favorite charity?

What do you think?

In my opinion, as long as:

[ol]
[li]The price and quality of the equipment being purchased is comparable to other vendors.[/li][li]You are not bypassing any company policies, such as competitive bidding, etc.[/li][li]You OK this with your immediate supervisor.[/li][/ol] I don’t see any problem with this.

And perhaps even if not; not every decision in business always comes down to immediate monetary cost; for example, some businesses may decide to try to purchase ‘fair trade’ kitchen supplies wherever possible - as part of a policy of ethics - even if the cost is a little higher.

I’ve always wanted to purchase some ethics, it’s hard without them.
