I just had to make a short rant about people who throw cups away in the trashcan while there is still liquid and or ice in them. At work here we each have a garbage bag at our cubicles and some people will put their drinks in the garbage can. What the fuck. I was taught never to do that. Am I the only one who empties my drink before throwing it away? So to all those people I give a hearty iron fist full o pain to the face. Does anyone else not empty their drink or have problems with other people not emptying their drinks. It’s disgusting.
I teach preschool, and at snack time, we have to teach the kids that if they don’t finish their milk, they’re to dump it in the sink rather than in the trash can with their napkin. Takes about a week for it to sink in. And they’re only four.
This is a total sidetrack, but I think coffee places should have some sort of container to dump excess coffee. If I forget to ask for “room”, and it’s too full to put cream in, I end up dumping coffee straight into the garbage. I hate to do that, but I hate waiting in line again just to have the person at the counter dump some of my coffee in the sink even more. I see people dump coffee in the trash so often, that it must leak out of the trash bag occasionally and make a big mess. You’d think they’d provide some kind of metal container to dump it in.
I don’t think it’s disgusting, but I do suspect that it makes life more difficult for the poor soul who gets to empty the trash.
Good luck getting people to dump their drinks. Just about everywhere that sells drinks seems to lack a sink in which to dump the liquids. People get used to throwing cups and liquid leftovers away in the trash.
We’ve been married 6 1/2 years, and a couple of weeks ago, I noticed my wife throwing a half-full cup of Coke-water and ice into our kitchen garbage receptacle. I asked her why she didn’t empty it out first, and she looked at me like I was from another planet. Apparently, it never occurred to her to empty it out. It never occurred to me not to. I had to explain that it was not a good idea to have a bag of garbage with a bunch of water at the bottom, for it would eventually start to make the garbage smell bad, and/or leak inside the container, and/or leak all over a garbageman on Friday morning. She empties out her cups now.
Everyone should have to work a few crappy jobs in their lifetime so that they learn firsthand that the little things they do without thinking can cause a bit hassle for someone else.
We’ve got a water cooler here. There is only a small resevoir under the spigot to catch any overflow. I somebody dupping their drink into that. That also happened frequently at the last place I worked.
When I see people do that tell them that it isn’t a drain. The look on their faces is priceless- shear and utter confusion. Yes, I am sure that is isn’t a drain. See, watch how I can move the cooler anywhere? No drain.
It’s gotta be the same reason that women fail to comprehend why you can’t just let go of a shopping cart in a sloped parking lot.
(or that it’s unacceptable to open your door into another car, even if you “didn’t do it that hard”)
I’ve seen kids (11-18) get a styrofoam cup, fill it from the Igloo, drink half, throw remainder+cup in trash can, repeat. about 10 times. I’m afraid I may have used agressive language with them.
