Pervy homosexual men hanging out in a mens room. Okay.
Pervy homosexual women hanging out in a womens room. Okay.
Pervy heterosexual women (“pretending” to be trans) hanging out in a mens room. Not a lot of noise.
Pervy heterosexual men (“pretending” to be trans) hanging out in a womens room. Won’t somebody please think of the children!!!
(And then there’s pervy heterosexual trans woman …, etc.)
It would seem to me, that the issue of perversion, not gender or orientation.
These bills also ignore the many individuals who were born in an uncertain gender state and whose birth certificate reflects a guess on gender.
Consider two people, both born XY but with androgen insensitivity syndrome with external female genital appearance. One identifies as female, one identifies as male. What are the rules here? Does external appearance overrule genes or vice versa? Who is the “pervert” in NC? Did the doctor at birth suspect something and have a gene test done right away or not? Does that really mean anything to anyone?
Do you not close the door when you take a shit? Why do you close yourself up in a cubicle like that? Seems pretty extreme.
Other than at pools, beaches or gyms, I have never once in my life seen a woman changing clothes in the open area of a restroom.
Dude, I know you’re known as one of the top morons of the SDMB, but this post of your really takes it up a notch.
I may have been going to the wrong bathrooms, but I have never ever seen someone changing clothes. Should someone be changing his pants in the open area of a men’s room, I think I would leave and wait until they were finished.
When I have to change any part of my more intimate clothing, I too go to the wheelchair toilet. There is more room, there is a place to put clean clothes down and I won’t be in the way of anybody wanting to wash their hands.
I may have had the chance to see someone else’s hairy schlong at an urinal, but certainly not if they sat down to pee.
Is this really a problem?
And also, do you completely strip naked if you are changing your pants or something? Why would even changing clothes in the open (something which does not happen other than a rarity) even show genitalia?
Even still…multiple threads on this, with multiple people asking multiple times about transmen taking their burly, bearded selves into the ladies’ room, and I STILL have never seen any of the objectors answering those questions. Not here, not elsewhere. No one. Even when shown photos of said transmen. Nothing.
This has to be one of the stupidest things that I have ever read on this forum, and I have been here for a long time.
I am 45, and I have used all sorts of bathroom configurations in many countries and several continents, alone and with a child, and I have never seen private parts of neither women nor men.
While we’re on the subject of being freaked out by mixed-gender nudity…
Does the law say anything about locker rooms, in which (unlike restrooms) open nudity is very much expected?
If someone like Buck Angel (an impressively masculine transgendered man with OEM genitalia) goes to the gym to work out, what does the law (or the gym’s policy) say about which locker room he should use?
I had no idea women were so shy. Closing themselves up in a stall for a quick pee. But if you say so then I’ll take your word for it.
I rarely if ever shut the stall door to pee. If the urinals are busy then I just step inside the stall and aim for the toilet. Closing the stall door doesn’t even occur to me. I do the same thing at home. I only close the stall door to take a dump. A closed stall door is actually a warning in a bathroom. Danger Will Robinson! The air in that room will soon be unbreathable. Get out while you can. lol
My comments about changing clothes or cleaning off a stain were obviously referencing bathrooms at work. I’m in there three or four times a day. They are an extension of my work space. Changing clothes for a basketball game at lunch. Or a short run. Bring a newspaper in there when taking a dump. Its a safe and comfortable environment. It is used occasionally by the public but usually its employees.
Toilets at airports or retail businesses are a different experience. I wouldn’t expect to see people changing clothes.
Yes I know women sit down to pee. So what. Its still a 30 second body function. My wife usually doesn’t bother closing the door at home for that. Maybe she does at public restroom. I’ve never asked.
Maybe we can solve the mystery of why women go to the restroom in pairs too. Never fails if you’re with a group at a restaurant. They usually leave in pairs or even 3 ladies head for the restroom. I think Snopes did an article it.
This is absolutely baffling to me, to the point of incredulity. Every bathroom stall I’ve ever been in closes inwards. If you don’t close the door, it will be flopping into you. This is just baffling.
Also, one of the weirder things about this whole argument: if “safety” was really a concern, the conservative argument is the weirdest position, because it’s going to mean that trans men are in the women’s room. So…you want your precious daughters alone in the bathroom with burly, bearded individuals who have amplified testosterone, often undergo a “secondary puberty” with an elevated sex drive, and (I believe) sexually prefer women at a higher rate than cisgendered women.
I hear some people go commando. Me, I wear underwear.
I have heard about people having bodily waste accidents and discarding their underwear, which I suppose would be a case of having to strip to bare skin, but I would hope that would be an extremely rare event for anyone and such a person is probably more concerned with cleaning themselves up than acting pervy towards anyone.
Because we’ve been conditioned to think that dicks are funny and that snatches are shameful things that must be kept hidden. It’s why calling a guy a dick is a mild insult but calling a woman a cunt is orders of magnitude worse (in the US; I know it’s different in other countries.)
And we head to the ladies’ room en masse so we can share all the good gossip we don’t want you menfolks to overhear.
I’ve actually never seen any woman change clothes in a bathroom. If she does, she would go inside a stall–some are roomier than others–or into the bigger stall for the disabled.
Of course, clothes changing goes on in the locker/shower room at the Y and any gym. I was never aware of any staring, gawking , perviness, predatory behavior, etc.
Yes, women do in fact close the stall doors so they can relieve themselves. People in general don’t care about being naked or nearly naked when they’ve been working out or swimming, but relieving oneself is different.

What do you think goes on at a unisex spa in Germany?
What do you think goes on at a nudist or naturist gathering?
Answer: Whatever you’re thinking, you’re gonna be totally off the mark.
