Hey guys and gals. Forgive me for this question because it’s not downtown related…
I grew up in Gurnee and when I was younger we’d ride bikes past a pyramid house in Wadsworth. Here’s a linky if you don’t know what I’m talking about: Wadsworth, IL - Golden Pyramid House
Anyway, all I remember about the place is that the guy who owned it has the last name Owen (or Owens).
Does anyone know more about this guy or the story about why he built a pyramid in northern Illinois?
Thanks…
Just surfing around found these links:
Agilitynut - Conseils aménagement, rénovation, travaux & décoration (Indicates the owner’s name is Onan)
http://www.goldpyramid.com/ (Official page? Offers tours @ $20/adult)

Supposedly, he was into some sort of pyramid spirituality at the time it was built. Several articles mentioned that the gold has been stripped from the house.
I don’t recall ever seeing this house.
Thanks! There’s some good information in those links. I guess I screwed up his name.
Here is is on google maps: Google Maps
If you’re ever traveling up to Gurnee to go to Six Flags or the mall, it’s worth the 3 extra minutes to drive by his place and snap a photo.
Very bizarre.
OH! I have a piece of information I can add… He has a statue of Ramses in front of his place, but you’ll notice a pile of gravel up to his knees. That’s because Gurnee (Illinois?) law states there can’t be a statue over a certain height. So what did Mr. Onan do? He lowered the height by raising the ground. Genius.
