Python eats bunny in front of children

At the Little Rock Zoo. Not for the faint of heart.

Hey, snakes have to eat, too. And a snake that size eats bunnies. It’s just the way the world works. The snake is too big to eat rats, so what else would you have it eat?

Snake eating dead bunny, meh…
Carnivorousplant eating bunny - now that’s not for the faint of heart!

I was being facetious
They feed the alligators rats, and when anyone under 3’ comes to the Plexiglas at the Grizzly exhibit, the bears amble over and salivate.

I was just startled that the text under that video said there have been protests. Uh, people, snakes have to eat, too, right? Heck, we had two large boas and fed them frozen rats, which we nicknamed “ratsicles,” so I have little sympathy for people who are outraged that <gasp> snakes eat, too!

We were at the zoo in Jackson, MS several years ago when they went to feed the alligators whole (dead and plucked) chickens. Apparently they were very full alligators; the keepers went so far as to stand in the pool, nearly smacking the gators over the head with the chickens, to no avail. Meanwhile, the young tiger next door was going nuts.

Holy moly! Bunny-eating pythons, carnivorous plants, tigers, wulfs! I’m not sure if it’s safe in here. I love that little blond girl’s face right at the beginning, ha!

I read somewhere a story that happened at the Kansas City zoo, a teaching incident, if you will, to show that lions aren’t just big kittycats.

The lions are fenced behind very large open enclosures. A class of elementary students was visiting and as they walked by a few of the lions were pacing the fence, following them. The teacher had one kid drop back and walk more slowing, pretending to limp. That’s when the lions dropped back to pace the one kid, ignoring the rest of the class. I guess it made quite an impression.

We are content with rats.
I am too lazy to find the video of the mouse.

Pretty snake!

That is so awesome. I wanna take my class to the zoo now.

Daniel

Or not.
Poor little bastard. He had to eat that whole rodent!

I don’t know what my deal is tonight, but I totally laughed when I read the title of the OP.

Um, zoos are teaching institutions. What’s your objection?

Is it as pretty on the inside or have you discovered that beauty is only snakeskin deep?

The deal is you’re only allowed to eat something if you bring enough for everyone. They didn’t have enough bunny for all the kids.

Heh. We had a pet ball python when my kid was little - kindergarten and first gradeish. The kid used to name the feeder mice. Let’s see, there was Entree, and Snackers, and Aura Dovers (sit with it, sit with it…ah, there you go, got it?) and Desi (short for Desert, of course)…

He understood “some animals eats plants and some eat other animals, now eat your pork chop and then you can feed the snake” quite well. His only question was (spoilered for extreme grossosity and male discomfort:

“Mom, why do the mouse’s testicles swell up like that when the snake squeezes him?”

What’s the answer?

“I don’t know honey, I guess maybe the snake’s squeezing all the mouse’s blood into there. Remind me to ask the vet next time we go in.” Which he never did…

Man, if only I had known about the Dope back then, I might have gotten him a real answer!

And now for something completely different!

That was pretty neat. That’s the kind of thing you want to see at a zoo. And it’s a lot better way to teach kids about the food chain than having them watch a lion tear its dinner apart. Well, cleaner, anyway.
